Did you know that the average child goes through around 4,000 nappies before they're toilet trained?!
That is a lot of nappy changes, and as they get bigger it only gets harder to keep them in one place!
The internet is full of tips on how to make nappy changes easier for both the parent and the child, and after some discussion here at London Rhymes we've come to the conclusion that the easiest tip is a simple one.
Sing a nappy changing song!
Singing is a great hands-free way to distract your child whilst you change their nappy, and it has loads of benefits for both you and your child.
Singing lowers cortisol and relieves stress and tension.
It's hard to get angry or frustrated whilst you sing.
It is a great way to bond with your child.
Singing releases endorphins.
If you sing the same song every time you change their nappy it'll help to create a routine, and figure out the length of time they need to keep still.
What song can you sing?
You may already have a fave song to sing! At London Rhymes we collaborate wiht families to create songs for everyday parenting highs and lows - and this one was created with families in a children's centre in Newham a few years back. Complete with a beautiful animation from our resident artist Claire Fauche which captures the challenges perfectly, it's one of our total faves!!
We hope it'll help keep your little one engaged with you whilst you change them. What a shiny bum!
